National Open Science Roadmap Framework

The Symposium introduces a structured approach toward a Gambian National Open Science Roadmap, built on three interdependent pillars:

Policy

Development or alignment of national strategies, institutional mandates, and governance mechanisms that embed Open Science within research systems while safeguarding national research priorities.

Infrastructure

Establishment of sustainable and interoperable digital platforms, including repositories, publishing systems, metadata services, and participation in persistent identifier ecosystems.

Capacity

Strengthening of human expertise, editorial development, governance structures, and communities of practice to ensure long-term sustainability.

These pillars are mutually reinforcing. Connectivity alone does not ensure visibility. Infrastructure alone does not ensure sustainability. Governance alone does not ensure implementation.

The Roadmap approach integrates all three dimensions into a coordinated national pathway.
