The LIBSENSE Open Science Symposium – The Gambia forms part of a broader continental movement to strengthen research visibility, integrity, and sustainability through coordinated Open Science implementation.
Across Africa, countries are aligning national research systems with the principles articulated in the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, which affirms scientific knowledge as a global public good — accessible, inclusive, transparent, and responsibly governed.
The LIBSENSE initiative supports this transition by working with national stakeholders to align policy, infrastructure, and institutional capacity.
Several countries in West Africa have begun structured Open Science Roadmap processes. The Symposium provides The Gambia with an opportunity to initiate a similarly coordinated and context-sensitive approach aligned with national priorities and regional research integration.
This event, therefore, sits within both a national transformation moment and a wider continental ecosystem.
