The 2-day workshop contributes to the ongoing LIBSENSE program from WACREN to embed Librarians in the delivery of NREN services to the R&E community.
Held in collaboration with the Nigerian University Libraries Consortium (NULIB), it is aimed at addressing some of the issues raised at the meeting of Libraries in support of effective research in WACREN held in Abuja last year.
Building on regional efforts to promote researcher visibility and other collaborations to enable improved access to local content, the event will be a participatory design workshop with outcomes that lead to follow-on activity in participant campus networks.
Objective
Co-design a collaborative project for increased awareness and uptake of ORCID identifiers on Nigerian campuses, and employ them to efficiently track research outputs and other institutional data outputs through the integration of Institutional Repositories with the ORCID API.
Targeted Audience
Senior Librarians and Library systems support staff who currently manage or plan to deploy Institutional Repositories and want to achieve more impact from their deployment.
Expected Outcomes
At the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Discuss the impact of the integration on their internal workflows and the benefit to the different stakeholders in their communities (researchers, lecturers, students).
- Gain hands-on experience with the API and manipulation of ORCID data in a demonstration institutional repository.
- Develop a generic sensitisation and rollout plan for integration of ORCID identifiers with their Institutional Repositories and content management workflows.
- Have the opportunity to discuss collaborative development of common tools and services.
The cost per participant is N50,000. Places are limited so early registration is advised.
