Objectives
The workshop will:
- Introduce Responsible Research Governance as the structural frame within which Responsible Research Assessment and LIBSENSE's wider Open Science work sit.
- Examine what responsible governance means from the specific realities of African research institutions, rather than adopting an external definition.
- Test four starting areas, research data, research ethics and care, generative AI, and institutional practice, as prompts for discussion, identifying what the initial framing may be missing.
- Draw on institutional experience to identify where existing policy or infrastructure already supports, or undermines, responsible research practice.
- Establish an early, shared understanding of the principles and priorities that should guide an African RRG framework.
- Set direction for subsequent consultation, capacity building, and institutional engagement.
Participants
Participants will include researchers and early-career researchers, research managers and administrators, research ethics professionals, librarians and data professionals, research infrastructure staff, and institutional leaders and policymakers.
Participation is deliberately cross-functional. Responsible Research Governance cannot be defined from any single professional vantage point, and this workshop is designed to bring perspectives that are usually kept apart into a shared conversation.
As the first activity in this strand, participants are shaping the initiative rather than receiving a finished one. The perspectives raised here will inform LIBSENSE's subsequent work directly.
