About the Workshop
This workshop opens a new strand of LIBSENSE work on Responsible Research Governance (RRG): what it means to govern research responsibly within African institutions, beyond how research is made open or how it is assessed.
RRG builds on LIBSENSE's Open Science work and its more recent Responsible Research Assessment (RRA) strand. Both have surfaced the same underlying issue from different directions: a researcher's ability to act openly and fairly is shaped as much by institutional, ethical and infrastructural conditions as by individual conduct.
Four areas have been identified as a starting point for discussion: research data governance, research ethics and care, the responsible use of generative AI, and institutional research practice. These are offered as opening questions. This workshop is where they will be tested, and where participants will determine whether they should be reshaped, extended, or reconsidered.
The workshop also marks an early point of engagement with the research administrator community, whose role in institutional governance is central to how responsible research practice takes hold.
