Providing broader promotion of maker culture and hackerspaces in NRENs, the Women in WACREN-Nigeria Physical Computing Workshop is a 5-day Hackfest including a “Women in the Community” session to be held at Access Bank ICT Center, Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria from 18th to 22nd November 2019.
The workshop organised by WACREN and Eko-Konnect and hosted by Covenant University follows on from the Women in WACREN online course ‘Physical Computing with Python’ that had over 300 subscriptions from female participants across Africa. The online course provided the fundamentals of how to use Python to program with Physical computing devices. Experimentation for the participants was provided via a virtual laboratory.
The best participants from the online course have been selected to participate in the workshop and participants will form 5 teams that will take-on practical activities to co-create smart real-life prototype projects and gain skills in both software and hardware development.
The online course and meritorious selection of participants for the workshop have been open to women across Africa.
Workshop Goals:
Participants will have the opportunity to use the knowledge gained from the women in WACREN online course to develop practical solutions and critical thinking. The workshop is also a great moment for participants to network and connect with like-minded people and receive mentorship from women experts in the tech industry.
Expected Outcomes:
Participants to experience real-time results of an interactive, and innovative approach to solving problems with electronics, sensors, and code.

Participation is free. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner including coffee breaks will be provided the duration of the workshop. Free accommodation will be provided. All participants should arrive at Covenant University on Sunday 17th November 2019.
