Description

This is a 3-day annual conference for Eko-Konnect institutions, members and interested parties from the wider research and education networking community in Nigeria to connect to activities and developments happening in the community.

The theme of this year’s conference is “The Role of Library in Open Science and Open Access".

Day 1 will include presentations and interactions to address the roles of the library and researchers in the promotion and development of open science and open access through the use of networked repositories. Insights into how institutions, their communities and works gain higher visibility in the global research and education space through the use of repositories and connecting to the REN will be covered.

Attendees will discuss the WACREN led "Library Support for Embedding NREN Services and E-infrastructures" initiative (LIBSENSE), the report of a recent workshop held in Zanzibar, and participate in the next iteration of the survey targeting librarians in the WACREN region on their role as information custodians and repository managers.

Day 2 will be a continuation of the previous day's activity and conclude with the 9th Eko-Konnect Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the afternoon.

Day 3 will host the launch of the Nigerian Youth Internet Governance Forum - NYIGF.

The NYIGF day is held in collaboration with other stakeholders including the Nigerian Internet Governance Forum(NIGF) and the Nigerian Internet Society(ISOC).

Targeted at students and young graduates, the event will kick-off a forum aimed at youth inclusion in issues of policy, usage and governance of the Internet so the Internet is used in a more informed and responsible manner.  Participants will be exposed to various avenues and platforms through which they can participate, make their voices heard, and influence policy and decision making.

The Eko-Konnect Campus Technology Internship Programme (CTIP) and relationship with NYIGF will be introduced to students in higher education institutions.
