WACREN, in collaboration with The Shadowserver Foundation, is organising a hands-on technical workshop open to the broader NREN community across Africa. This includes NRENs, their member institutions, and regional national Computer Security Incident Response Teams (nCSIRTs) as we work to strengthen ties and foster collaboration among cybersecurity stakeholders.
The workshop will focus on the practical integration and use of Shadowserver’s free daily threat intelligence feeds and services to enhance incident response capabilities. Participants will gain direct experience with interpreting the data, using the reports API, filtering and prioritising threat information, and applying open-source tooling such as IntelMQ and Kibana in real-world scenarios—all within a secure training environment in WACREN Cloud.
Participants will:
- Explore the full scope of Shadowserver’s free services
- Learn to interpret threat feeds and prioritise incidents using severity levels
- Practice integrating data via APIs and dynamic report filters
- Use tools, including IntelMQ, for automation and threat processing
- Leverage the Shadowserver Dashboard for situational awareness and vulnerability management
- Understand best practices for using these tools at the institutional and national levels
The training environment will be carefully set up to allow hands-on interaction with real data while maintaining security and integrity. By the end of the workshop, attendees will be equipped with practical skills and resources to strengthen their organisation’s cybersecurity posture and better respond to incidents across their networks.
