Description

This one-day WACREN NREN Academy session establishes the foundation for a renewed program for strengthening NRENs in the WACREN region through a collaborative strategy leveraging shared services. The morning includes a refresher on the updated NREN Capability Maturity Model and a benchmarking exercise to assess current member capabilities.

In the afternoon, participants will explore practical tools, services, and shared infrastructure designed to strategically position NRENs within their national digital infrastructure and research programs, enhancing national relevance through regional collaboration. The session complements ongoing and upcoming initiatives in AfricaConnect, including business accelerator training to strengthen business development skills among NREN managers, and the continued partnership with NORDUnet to foster advanced leadership, operational excellence, and collaborative learning across the region.

By the end of the session, participants will:
1) Develop a shared understanding of the current maturity levels of NRENs in the WACREN region using the updated Capability Maturity Model.
2) Identify strategic pathways to design national strategies and (multi-)annual roadmaps for sustainable NREN growth.
3) Clarify the NREN value proposition by examining concrete shared service examples, including e-learning platforms and open science infrastructure.
