Description

WACREN understands the vital role of high-quality research practices in shaping the impact of African research. Therefore, it emphasises the necessity of active leadership involvement to drive research excellence across the continent. This LIBSENSE workshop, supported by the AfricaConnect3 project (co-funded by the European Commission), aims to cultivate collaboration among leaders in higher education, regulators, and research funders within Nigeria and the WACREN region to enhance research standards and their impact.

The workshop will focus on recent activities in the region and explore opportunities for national and international cooperation to maximise the potential of our higher education institutions. It aims to improve participants' understanding of the importance and challenges of digital object identifiers (DOIs) and opportunities with alternative persistent identifiers (PIDs) like ARKs for research outputs such as journal articles or research data. The workshop will also address the leadership role in promoting research excellence and responsible research practices and recommend establishing a sustainable research ecosystem that attracts investment and produces high-quality, impactful research on open infrastructure.

Target Participants

  • University leadership
  • Higher education regulators
  • Higher education research funders

Participants will benefit from insights and best practices, share experiences, enhance the collective capacity for research excellence, and lay the foundations for a more cohesive and effective research environment.
