WACREN, in collaboration with DFN and RENATER will hold a Workshop on eduroam as part of bigger plans to equip NRENs with requisite knowledge and skills to operate eduroam in their respective jurisdictions. 

Objective of the workshop

The objective of the workshop is to promote eduroam as a service of relevance for NRENs and their constituency.

Description

The service and its usage will be described and its relevance for the NREN users outlined. The presenters will show how the service has been taken up by different GEANT NRENs and, if so, which other services build on it. The basic requirements to deploy the service will be outlined and the need for training discussed. There will be time for Q&A at the end of the workshop. After the workshop, there will be the opportunity to follow up with the presenters on individual questions.

Result

At the end of the workshop, participants will be aware of the potential benefits of eduroam and will be aware of the requirements to deploy eduroam at their NREN.

      A member of the eduroam Development Team (SURF) explains the idea of eduroam, how it works for institutes and users, and outlines the potential benefit for the NREN.

      A Technical Expert (DFN) outlines the basic technical requirements. What would the NREN need to procure? What has to be there already? What kind of expertise is needed to set up eduroam? Will there be training necessary?

      Use Cases

      An NREN representative (ASNET-AM) describes how they have deployed eduroam in their country, which challenges they faced and how they have overcome these challenges.

      A WACREN representative elaborates on the eduroam Roadshow within the WACREN countries conducted in 2021.
